Greggs and Burger King are both planning to reopen a number of their stores for takeaway services.

In what will be a trial run, bakery chain Greggs will see if it can safely operate without breaking social distancing rules.

The reopenings are thought to be introduced as early as next week.

But the bakery has not yet revealed how many branches will be included in the trial.

A spokesman for the firm said: "We want to play our part in getting the nation back up and running again so we are planning to conduct a limited trial with volunteers to explore how we can reopen our shops with new measures in place that keep our colleagues and customers as safe as we can when we re-open at scale."

Meanwhile, Burger King is planning to reopen 10 more its outlets a week.

Six dotted across the country are currently open for drive-thru orders.

Currently Burger King has not earmarked stores to reopen in Kent, but this may change in the coming weeks.

The news comes as McDonald's mulls over a mid-May reopening for some its fast food restaurants.
