A 38-year-old businessman is under armed guard in hospital today after a shooting outside his apartment in Wilson Avenue, Rochester.
The victim was shot in the leg. After undergoing surgery at Gillingham's Medway Maritime Hospital his condition is described as "stable".
The shooting happened at about 7pm last night outside the Craig House apartments.
When the victim got out of his white estate type van he was approached by another man with a gun and a struggle occurred, resulting in a single shot being fired.
The gunman then fled and ran down Pattens Avenue and along a footpath towards Maidstone Road. The victim managed to reach his flat and call the emergency services.
The gunman is described as being in his early 30s and around 6ft 1ins tall. He is of a thin, athletic build.
He was wearing a black tracksuit top and bottoms with a white stripe, a woolly hat, pulled over his eyebrows, and light trainers.
A metallic red Rover Metro was also seen driving quickly down Pattens Avenue in the same direction as the gunman.
The shooting is not thought to be random and police are investigated numerous motives.
Det Ch Insp Martin Harris said: "We do not believe this was a random attack and are looking at a number of possible motives. He added: “We believe the gunman and the car are linked."
