Gutted - the smoking remains of three homes

This dramatic bird's eye view shows the smouldering remains of a Margate development project that was gutted by fire.

A burnt-out silhouette against the Dane Valley landscape is all that is left standing of the large property that was converted into three homes.

Taken by Kent Fire and Rescue Service, the photo is a graphic reminder of how swiftly fire can ravage a building in a short amont of time.

At the height of the blaze that broke out around 10.40am on Wednesday in Millmead Road, more than 30 fire fighters from around east Kent fought to contain the flames. fire,

There were no reports of any injuries although five people from the nearby King Edward pub were evacuated as a precaution.

The remains of the building were demolished after Thanet council building control officers deemed them unsafe.

Fire experts are sifting through the charred remains of the property as an investigation continues. A police spokesman described the cause as "suspicious".
