POLICE in Thanet want to speak to this man after a burglary victim was hit over the head with a hammer (Karina Hodder writes).

He is believed to be one of four men who terrorised a couple in Millmead Road, Margate, earlier this month.

The incident happened at about 11.30pm on Thursday, 4 September, when the a 60-year-old man heard his doorbell ring. As he went to the door he saw someone kicking at the glass panel.

Four men got into the house and the victim was struck with the hammer. He fell to the floor and they assaulted him again while demanding money. At this point the victim’s wife came downstairs.

Two of the raiders remained downstairs with the couple while another two went upstairs. They quickly searched the rooms upstairs and stole money, mobile phones and credit cards.

All four suspects then fled. The victim described the man who hit him as black, in his early twenties, about 5ft 5in tall, and slim and wearing a cloth mask over his face, a dark jacket, dark trousers and gloves. Another intruder was black and wearing a white hooded top.

Police are also trying to trace a white car, possibly a Vauxhall Cavalier, seen leaving the area immediately after the attack. A police spokeswoman said: “Incidents of this nature are extremely rare in Thanet and are treated very seriously.

“Anyone who was in the area at the time this offence occurred and has information that could assist the officers investigating this case should call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 urgently.”
