A handyman has denied murdering a schoolgirl whose remains were found at a house in Kent last November.

Peter Tobin pleaded not guilty to the charge during an appearance at the High Court in Edinburgh today.

He is charged with murdering 15-year-old Vicky Hamilton from Redding, near Falkirk, more than 17 years ago.

Her remains were found in the garden of a house in Irvine Drive, Margate, after one of the biggest missing persons investigations in Scottish history.

Tobin, 62, will go on trial at the High Court in Dundee on November 3.
