Dover Athletic missed the chance to move into the Blue Square Bet South play-off positions after being held to a goalless draw at Havant & Waterlooville on Monday night.

After recording a 2-0 win against Bishop’s Stortford on Saturday, manager Martin Hayes (pictured) knew a victory at Westleigh Park would move the Whites into fifth spot.

Despite a game which produced end-to-end football, neither side were able to break the deadlock.

Dover top scorer Adam Birchall came close to giving the visitors the lead late in the second half, but his chip was cleared off the line by Ian Simpemba.

Strike partner Jon Main, signed on-loan from AFC Wimbledon, troubled the home side in the dying minutes with a low drive producing a smart save from Hawks goalkeeper Aaron Howe.

The result leaves Dover a point adrift of the play-off places ahead of this Saturday trip to Weston-super-Mare.
