Have-a-go hero tackles thief - despite being on crutches

A have-a-go hero was left bruised after being dragged along the ground by a thief he tried to stop in Broadstairs - despite being on crutches at the time.

Kent Police were called at to Paydens Chemist, The Broadway, after reports that a man was attempting to steal a number of perfume and aftershave gift sets.

He was confronted by members of staff and a 58-year-old customer as he tried to leave the shop, soon after 2.30 pm on Friday, May 28.

The customer, who was using crutches, was dragged along the floor and out into the street. He was shaken off by the thief, who then fled the scene.

The fearless shopper was taken to the Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital, Margate, where he was treated for minor injuries.

A police spokesman said inquiries into the incident were continuing.
