Have your say on towers future

The cooling towers at Richborough power station. Should they be demolished?
The cooling towers at Richborough power station. Should they be demolished?

A call by a reader to demolish the cooling towers at Richborough power station has led to a connundrum over who owns the Ramsgate site.

First we asked the county council, the owners of the nearby rubbish tip, which is the strategic planning authority and widely believed to be the owners.

No, said KCC, try the district council.

Calls to Dover and Thanet district councils shed no light on who owns the power station nor any plans for the future of the towers.

Deal reader Peter Davis knows what he wants their future to be. He proposed, in a letter to us, that the landmark be demolished to provide a modern energy-from-waste plant to provide energy for Kent.
