Hawks decide Shark and Tigers' fate

Barrie 'Swampy’ Ridley from Queenborough beat 80,000 people to make it on to the hit Channel 4 show Shipwrecked as part of the Shark tribe. In this weekly column, he shares his experiences.

After 13 weeks in paradise, the Shark and Tiger tribes are heading towards the final beach party, where they will discover which team will win £100,000.

In last Sunday’s episode, the Islands were shocked to discover not two but three new arrivals joining them this week.

After spending equal time on both the Shark and Tiger islands, the new arrivals all chose Shark island.

Despite speculation amongst the Sharks they may be able to pick two new arrivals, they were only allowed one, and after discussion Nathan was made an official Shark.

At the beach party the tribes are informed there will be no more new arrivals and they settle back into island life.

The end of the show saw two boats full of members from the third Hawk island approaching.

Barrie tells us: “It was a bit of a shock when we saw two boats coming towards us, we start wondering if it’s new arrivals but we don’t know what’s going on.

“The two boats split up and we realise as one of them gets closer it is full of girls we have sent home, so we know the other must be full of the boys.”

Barrie reveals after all the excitement has died down, the Sharks begin to feel wary as they realise the Hawks must have arrived for a reason and they begin to speculate.

The Sharks think the Hawks may have come back as a whole island and they could win, but then they all sit down and the Hawks explain to them what is going on, and that they are responsible for the other Shipwreckers’ fates.

Both islands spend the week leading up to the beach party impressing the Hawk girls and Hawk boys.

Barrie said: “We knew there would be a twist but not one like that.

“All the time the Hawks are with us we are thinking about which ones we have sent home and who might and might not pick us.

“Sarah Sole was helping us out because it was only 48 hours since she had said she was a Shark, so she was telling us what the Hawks wanted to see from our camp.

“We made a ship out of wood and decided it would be nice if everyone wrote a message about their special memories on it.

“We really did have to work hard as in their minds they had the power.”

There was no way Barrie was going to tell us who wins, but the sneaky peak he did give us was that the first Hawk to stand up and reveal their chosen island picks Tigers, which is a real blow to the Sharks.

Currently the Sharks have 13 members to the Tigers nine, but anything could happen.

Barrie added: “At the final beach party it’s not close at all, the team that wins, wins by a landslide.”

Tune in this Sunday to find out what happens in Shipwrecked: Battle of the Islands 2008.
