STUDENTS at Minster College have been very unfairly criticised and done very much better than figures suggest, said head Alan Klee.
He has challenged their apparent position as the worst in the county and almost the worst in the country as a whole, after the Key Stage 3 results were published.
Mr Klee pointed out 54 per cent of his pupils have done their KS3 a year earlier.
He said: "They do them at the Island’s Middle Schools and do very well because of the quality of the teaching there.
"The remaining 46 per cent come to us and then complete the tests - if you combine the figures we actually compare very well.
"English is 45 per cent, Maths 60 per cent and Science 49 per cent and students are doing well given the academic profile of the school.
"It is very unfair to the students, to the staff and the school which is improving and criticism like this is not warranted."
