Volunteers are needed to help transform an area of wasteland into an oasis of calm tomorrow.

A BBC Springwatch Action Team (Swat) will get to work behind Queenborough Fire Station, off Whiteway Road, to create a Breathing Place – an area of tranquility for people and animals.

Queenborough residents have already been hard at work to make the patch more friendly to both wildlife and people, and now the BBC Radio Kent Springwatch Action Team is going to lend a hand.

The team, which includes partners Groundwork and the Kent Wildlife Trust, will clear waterways across the site, plant up and clear parts of the site to encourage butterflies, dragonflies and frogs, and improve access for everyone.

When the team has finished, the site will be officially designated as a Breathing Place.

A Springwatch spokesman said: “Along with helping with the dirty work, people will be able to create a bug hotel, make a bird feeder, plus a host of other activities to help the community.”
