This herd of green elephants has been turning heads in a Kent village.

The 11 life-size sculptures made from recyclable materials moved in to the Appledore home of Jacqui Elwes on Tuesday after they ended their tour to promote the dangers faced by Asian elephants.

The animals have visited royal parks and Selfridges before leaving the Brighton Pavilion for Mrs Elwes’ home – a journey organised by the charity, Elephant Family.

Mrs Elwes, a supporter of the charity, said: “It is so exciting having them.

“I hadn’t quite envisaged them being so amazing – they stopped traffic!”

The elephants, having been bought, will soon go on to their new owners.
