A Herne Bay care home has had its registration cancelled following concerns of neglect and abuse against some of its residents.

The owners of Sea View Lodge can no longer offer services after Canterbury Magistrates granted an application on Wednesday from the Care Quality Commission.

The Central Parade home, which offers residential care for eight residents with learning disabilities, is owned by Shahid and Nelofa Sheikh.

Kent County Council has already identified alternative placement for the residents aged between 25 and 80.

Roxy Boyce, the Care Quality Commission’s regional director, said: “We have acted quickly to protect the safety and welfare of people at Sea View Lodge. All services must meet essential standards of care and we take action where services are failing people.

“It became clear the only way to properly protect residents at Sea View Lodge was to close the home immediately, and move residents to other locations where care is of a better standard.

“Closing a care home is not a decision taken lightly. These are places where people live and we have to weigh up the potential impact on residents.

"In some cases, moving frail and vulnerable people can cause more harm than good.”
