Tunji Agbaje has returned to Herne Bay after his trial at Crystal Palace but a move to the Championship club is still possible.
The 19-year-old, who started for Bay at Tooting & Mitcham last weekend, could join up with Ian Holloway at Selhurst Park by the end of the month.
If the teenage striker does leave Winch’s Field, Bay manager Simon Halsey will seek to bring in a replacement – but he can only do so before the Ryman League player registration deadline on March 31.
Halsey (pictured) said: "Tunji’s back with us and we’ll see what happens. It hasn’t come to anything yet so he’s back in a blue and white shirt.
"I want to get everyone signed by the 31st so I need to know (about Tunji) a week before that.
"If there’s a chance of losing him, I need to get another striker.
"Tunji lets me know what’s happening, he keeps me informed. It’s all good for him – training with a pro club can only help him. It’s definitely not a distraction."
Bay, who drew 0-0 with Three Bridges on Wednesday night, return to Winch’s Field on Saturday when Crawley Down are the visitors.
