Bouncers in Margate could be getting a new hi-tech weapon in an effort to keep troublemakers at bay.
Ten portable headcams are expected to be rolled out in popular pubs and clubs in time for the busy festive season.
The Thorley Taverns and JD Wetherspoon chains have already expressed an interest in using the devices - footage from which is 'stamped’ with the time and date, allowing it to be used as evidence in court.
Pub chain supremo Frank Thorley said: “These headcams are a terrific tool.
“When we do have someone who is 'playing up,’ we’ll have photographic evidence that we can use against them.”
The idea to use headcams to improve night-time safety in Margate came from a pilot scheme in Plymouth.
Violent crime fell by 13 per cent when Devon and Cornwall police began using the equipment, whilst the amount of time spent on paperwork fell by nearly a quarter.
Community safety officer Tiffany Hall said: “We want to get the message across that anti-social behaviour in Margate won’t be tolerated.
“These cameras act as both a deterrent to anyone who might be considering causing trouble and reassurance for people on a night out.”
