VOLVO'S Adventure Concept Car 2 is a high performance concept of the V70XC (cross country). According to Volvo, it is designed for extreme outdoor adventures.
The ACC2 follows Vovlo’s first adventure concept car from last year. That model went on to become the Volvo XC90, a new generation sports utility vehicle.
The ACC2 boasts 18inch studded, “run-flat” Michelin tyres that give the driver maximum control in the event of a blow out, while high performance is guaranteed from a 2.4 turbo engine producing 300 bhp of power.
The car uses an electronically controlled all-wheel drive system, six-speed, semi-automatic gearbox with up and down buttons integrated in the steering wheel and a button to select reverse gear on the centre console.
The FOUR-C (continuously controlled chassis concept) from Volvo’s performance concept cars collects and uses huge amounts of information about the way the car moves and is being driven to automatically adjust damper and handling characteristics appropriately.
The ACC2’s headlights are connected to a global positioning system to automatically adapt the light pattern for countries that drive on the right or left side of the road.
Controls and dashboard illumination are coloured orange to highlight safety features and frequently used items.
A “utility belt” in the centre console has docking facilities for a range of high-tech gadgets such as a camera, digital camcorder, DVD player and a smart personal digital assistant incorporating a phone and GPS “On” system.
Jonathan Dale, Volvo’s interior designer, said: “The exposed steel and aluminium surfaces emphasise the feeling of a capable driving machine.”
