The Prime Minister says he will look at the possibility of extending the High Speed line through Kent.

He was responding to a question from the Thanet North MP Sir Roger Gale during Prime Minister’s Questions.

The MP said the failure to extend high speed track through Kent beyond Ashford was "unfinished business" and that people in east Kent should benefit from the services in the same way others did.

High speed trains to and from London St Pancras currently stop at most stations in Thanet, but do not reach full speed until further west in the county.

Sir Roger said: "In congratulating the government in its courageous decision to pursue High Speed 2, can I ask him [the PM] to turn his attention to unfinished business left by the last goverment?

"High Speed One services only run from St Pancras to Ashford. Could he ask it to drive through services to Thanet, so we can see the sort of benefits that will be enjoyed by Birmingham?"

The Prime Minister replied: "I will look at what he says.

"High Speed one is an advert for what you can get from linking up the country with high speed rail services, shortening commuter distances and, helping change the economic geography of the country so we can build a stronger economy."
