Holiday lodges proposal for Hamstreet

A proposal for 39 holiday lodges in Hamstreet goes before Ashford Borough Council planning committee on Wednesday.

The application by Crown Park (Estate) Ltd of Scotland is for a change of use of land at the Silver Birches Caravan site.

Planning officers are recommending refusal because the plans “fail to minimise the number of new car journeys that the site would generate.”

The committee will also look at an amended application to build six flats and 14 houses at Hoxton Close, Singleton.

The application, by Hillreed Homes, centres on a site that is subject to an existing permission to build 17 homes and forms part of a larger development of 300 homes.

The parish council is objecting to the scheme largely on the grounds of an increase in density and problems with parking.

An application to build a one and a half storey, three-bedroom house within the grounds of Henden Hall in Biddenden will also be considered.

According to officers, the proposal is contrary to a number of policies, including Ashford Borough Council’s Local Plan.
