Hollywood actor Orlando Bloom has
collected an honorary degree from Kent University.
With his dashing good looks and a
sharp dark suit covered by the red ceremonial robes, Canterbury
born Bloom strolled into the Cathedral, alongside Poirot star David
Suchet OBE, who was also picking up an honorary degree.
The pair clapped on all the other
graduates as they received their degrees, before they were
introduced to collect theirs.
Orlando Bloom blushed as his
achievements were read out: alongside starring in Lord of the Rings
and Pirates of the Caribbean, he has been voted one of the hottest
males on the planet and been one of the most Googled pin-ups.
With his well groomed face and
feathered hat Bloom then took to the lectern, watched by supermodel
Mirander Kerr.
He said: "I would like to thank
everyone at the university very much. It is a great honour and a
wonderful experience.
"I am in wonder...wondering what
I'm doing here.
"I'm humbled, and it is great to be
back in Canterbury.
"I appreciate this more than I can
say. Please accept my gratitude."
The former St Edmunds School pupil
also recalled some of his childhood memories of Canterbury,
including his stage debut at the Marlowe Theatre, where he was also
due to visit.
"I remember being four years old in
a hot and itchy monkey suit and being bitten by some kind of bug. I
turned round to the audience and scratched my bum in front of a
riotous crowd, and that roar still follows me.
"It is fitting to be back in my
home town where I have many fond memories of the Cathedral, the
fields and the duck pond at the university campus."
After leaving the Cathedral he
signed a few autographs and posed for a handful of pictures. With
one teenage fan having travelled all the way from Waymouth to catch
a glimpse of the Silver screen royalty.
