A large number of homes and businesses in the Maidstone area are without power following an incident earlier this morning.

UK Power Networks, the company responsible for distributing electricity, confirmed that homes in the ME14, ME15, ME16 and ME17 postcode areas were affected.

It follows what it described as a "network incident" at 7.50am, which caused a fault in a local substation.

A spokesman for UK Power Networks said its engineers were aware of the outage and were investigating further. However, he was not able to confirm when power would be restored.
