More than 1,000 homes in Parkwood and Wigmore were plunged into darkness last night following a power cut.

A fault on an underground electricity cable meant 1,500 customers were without power from 7.10pm until 8.09pm while 358 customers were without electricity until 1.45am this morning.

A spokesman for EDF Energy said: "We appreciate how difficult it is to be without power, especially at this time of year and during the holiday period. We apologise for this incident."
