A MOTHER and daughter have spoken of their shock after a car crashed into their driveway leaving its driver dead.
Lee Waite, 21, was killed in the early hours of Sunday when the Mini he was driving hit a tree before spinning into the drive in Southborough Lane, Petts Wood.
He was pronounced dead at the scene, while a girl was taken to hospital with head injuries.
The family whose drive the car ended up in did not wish to be named, but the daughter said: "I was asleep in the front room when I heard what sounded like a combination of metals coming together in a loud crash.
"My first thought was that a meteor had crashed into my car. It was a horrible sound and I can still hear it in my head now.
"I rushed downstairs and realised straight away that this was something very serious. The engine was on fire and had come away from the car which had then spun over the wall into my car."
The mother, daughter and the daughter’s boyfriend rushed to help fire and ambulance crews rescue those still trapped.
The 24-year-old continued: "A paramedic was telling me what to do and I was really surprised with how well I dealt with it.
"There were so many people around and I just helped to get blankets and water for those who were injured.
"There wasn’t a lot else we could do but we didn’t sleep for the rest of the night. It was a nasty crash scene and very upsetting to know that a young man has died on our doorstep.
"I thought I was holding it together until I rang a friend and just broke down. It is not a nice thing to see at all and things like this effect so many people."
The mother said: "We have had a lot of visits from neighbours who have come round to see what happened. The flowers are right outside the house so it has been very busy. We are feeling very upset but it is nothing compared to what the families are going through."
Two female passengers were taken to Kings College Hospital. A 15-year-old girl was sedated in a stable condition at the time of going to press.
The other, whose age is unknown, suffered a broken wrist and head injuries and has been discharged.
Two other females and two males were taken to the Princess Royal University Hospital, Farnborough, suffering from minor injuries. All were discharged.
