Junction of Station Road and Maidstone Road in Nettlestead blocked by horses and trailers

A road has been blocked by up to 20 horses and trailers causing traffic chaos this afternoon.

Heavy delays were reported in both directions as vehicles were forced to manoeuvre around the hazard at the junction of Station Road and Maidstone Road in Nettlestead, Maidstone.

One motorist said: “Station Road is completely unpassable. Traffic is really slow both ways and even an ambulance was struggling to get through.

“I couldn’t see an accident but there was just so many horses and trailers and cars blocking the road.”

A spokesman for Kent Police said: “During the evening of June 29, Kent Police received several calls concerning a large gathering of people outside a pub in Maidstone Road, Nettlestead.

“Patrols attended the area and there were no reports of any disorder.

“The amount of people, as well as several vehicles and horses, caused some disruption to the road outside the pub and officers remained in the area to monitor any traffic issues. Words of advice were also given to the licensee to help manage the congestion.”
