The Horton Kirby Bowls Club triple of Anne Hicks, June Chapple and Pat Rolfe are enjoying a double celebration after reaching the final of the Kent County Ladies Bowls competition as well as the national finals.
They qualified for both events after beating Folkestone Park’s Margaret Ferguson, Susan Foster and Beth Hopper 15-12 on Saturday.
The county final is on July 13 and the national final takes place later in the summer at Leamington.
On the back of her performance, Rolfe qualified for a Kent county badge.
On the same day, Jean Eslick competed in the ladies unbadged singles for the Maude Wood trophy. After a close contest, she lost 21-19 to Canterbury’s Sue Close.
The men have also been successful in their respective divisional finals in Sunday’s men’s county competition.
Bob Shields took part in the two-wood against VCD’s Barry Stone and the unbadged singles against Dave Farrow of Bexley Park, winning both.
In winning the unbadged, Shields qualified for his county badge.
Gary Carpenter and son Matthew, 16, played the county pairs, beating Colin Coomber and Ray Ellis from Gravesend. Matthew now qualifies for his county badge.
Further success was enjoyed by Andy Boatwright, Steve Johnson and Graham Moorhouse as they beat Eddie Bishop’s rink from Cray Cottage.
The men now move to the quarter and semi-finals to be played during the week starting July 14.
