The number of infections such as MRSA and C.diff have been significantly cut at Medway Maritime Hospital.

The Gillingham hospital, managed by Medway NHS Foundation Trust, has released end-of-year figures, which show people contracting MRSA (Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus) has dropped by 56 per cent.

The figures exceed the 50 per cent target set by the government.

C.diff, (Clostridium difficile) infection has also seen a reduction of 31 per cent.

A trust spokesman said: “Our dedicated infection control team has worked hard to prevent and control infections ensuring high standards are maintained across the trust."
