House badly damaged in blaze

ARMY fire fighters had to pump water from a swimming pool to put out a house fire at Hadlow, near Tonbridge.

The blaze is thought to have started in the garage of the semi-detached home, in Tunbridge Wells Road, shortly before 12.15pm on Sunday.

Although a breathing apparatus team responded, together with two Green Goddesses from Tonbridge and a Red Goddess from Maidstone, nobody had to be rescued from the burning building. There were no injuries.

The fire spread to the roof of the house and into the lower floors.

Military crews put the fire out in about four hours during the latest 48-hour strike by firefighters.
