KENT Police are urging people not to leave their car keys near to windows or doors overnight following recent burglaries that have resulted in the owners' vehicles also being stolen.

One of the latest incidents happened shortly after midnight on Monday, October 3, in Oakfield Lane, Dartford.

Offenders smashed a window to a house to gain entry and stole a Plasma television and also the owner’s car that was parked on the driveway by taking the car keys from the house.

Among the items stolen were a Hitachi plasma television, valued at £300, and a black Saab convertible. The vehicle was later found abandoned on an industrial estate in Crayford.

Police also say people should not to leave their car keys near to windows or doors when they go out.

Police advice is:

* Try to ensure your car keys are not left ‘lying’ around. Where possible use a key cupboard or locked drawer or keep the keys with you.

* Do not leave you car keys near to windows, which can be smashed quite easily allowing a thief to reach in and take them.
