White Christmas: Met Office reveals 12% chance Kent will have snow this year

New Met Office statistics suggest there is a more than one-in-10 chance Kent could be in for a white Christmas this year.

Several recent years have seen snowfall in the county during late winter and early Spring - ranging from a light smattering to February's Beast from the East, which saw the swathes of the county blanketed in white.

But there has not been snow in the south-east on Christmas Day for 17 years, since 2001.

Figures from the government's Met Office, however, suggest there is a 12% chance of snow this Christmas.

The statistics were calculated using data that looked at whether there had been snowfall or snow on the ground around 25th December in the last quarter-of-a-century.

The Met Office found Scotland - where there have been 11 white Christmases in the last 25 years - has the highest chance of snow, at 44%.
