As pressure grows on households to help reduce the nation’s carbon footprint while saving money on their own monthly outgoings, products such as triple glazing may hold the key to future energy efficiency.
Homeowners could potentially see their energy bills slashed by hundreds of pounds each year with the installation of the A-plus energy rated windows.
Triple glazed windows are made up of three panels of glass, instead of the standard two, and two argon gas filled cavities.
As argon is denser than air, the addition of an extra chamber of gas creates a super efficient insulator blocking out the cold air, while the internal pane of soft coat glass reflects heat back into the room as it tries to escape.
Up to 80% of a double glazed window’s energy loss occurs at the glass edge. The addition of a warm edge spacer bar to separate the panes of glass and hold them in place, which flexes during temperature changes, makes it resistant to any form of seal failure and creates a near-zero vapour loss.
This bolsters the window’s outstanding thermal performance and helps make it more efficient than standard double glazing say experts.
Kent-based firm Britelite, which specialises in windows, doors and conservatories, confirms the adoption of its UPVC triple glazed windows could cut a customer’s heating bill by up to £497 when changing from single glazed aluminium windows.
It’s warmer, it’s quieter and it’s more secure.
