A huge plume of smoke from a fire close to the M25 can be “seen from miles away” this morning.
Nine fire engines are at the scene near junctions 10 and 11 tackling an enormous blaze which has raged overnight at an industrial unit near the motorway.
The crews are expected to be there throughout the day and are asking nearby residents to keep windows and doors closed and to avoid the area.
One Twitter user said the “big old plume of smoke” over the M25 is “visible from miles away”.
Just after 10.30pm last night, Surrey Fire and Rescue tweeted: “We currently have 10 pumps and an aerial ladder platform in attendance at a fire in a commercial unit on Oyster Lane, West Byfleet.”
At 6.47am this morning, an update said: “We remain in attendance at the incident, with 9 fire engines and 3 aerial ladder platforms.
“Our control room are receiving a high volume of calls reporting the fire this morning.
“Please note that we are aware of the smoke, and expect to be at the scene throughout the day.”
