Glorious Good Friday morning sunshine lit up the route of the annual Walk of Witness from Tankerton High Street to St Alphege Church, Whitstable.

More than 250 Christians from the town’s 14 churches, along with members of The Y youth congregation, joined the procession to mark the day of Jesus’s crucifixion. Members took turns to carry a wooden replica of the cross, pausing for reflection and prayers at Our Lady Roman Catholic Church, Whitstable harbour and Reeves beach.

As the cross completed its journey, an act of worship was held outside St Alphege Church.

"The Walk of Witness gives Christians a chance to remember the walk Jesus took to his crucifixion," said co-ordinator Rev Simon Tillotson, Vicar of All Saints and St Peter’s Churches, Whitstable.

He added: "We believe that Jesus gives forgiveness for our sins on the cross and we think it’s important to believe in God’s forgiveness.

"We live in a 24/7 consumerist society and we in the church hope events like these remind people there are different sides to life."
