Immigration minister and Kent MP Damian Green is facing pressure to account for his role in decisions to relax border controls that it is claimed allowed non-EU citizens into the country unchecked.
The minister is expected to be summoned to appear before the Home Affairs select committee to answer questions about his role in the matter.
He is also likely to be pressed to release documents setting out how the policy to relax controls came about.
Keith Vaz, the Labour chairman of the Home Affairs select committee, said: "He seems to be somewhat missing.
"He would have had to have been informed of some of these decisions and would have met Brodie Clark [chief executive of the UK Border Agency, who resigned last night] on a weekly basis.
"We are very keen to hear from him about what he knew and he may be able to help our inquiries."
The row took a dramatic twist with the resignation of Mr Clark from his role. He quit, saying the Home Secretary had made his position untenable.
He has denied that he went further than he had been authorised to do so by the Home Secretary.
MPs will debate the row later today as Labour demand more details of Home Office guidance given to the UK Border Agency.
Mr Green, the MP for Ashford, was unavailable for comment.
