A cheese thief and serial shoplifters are among those to face justice in Kent's magistrates' courts in the past couple of weeks.

Maidstone woman won't be driving for more than a year

Linda Jackson, of Egerton Road, drove a Suzuki Wagon in Northumberland Road, Maidstone, without a licence and failed to give a breath test.

Magistrates banned the 57-year-old from driving for a year and a half and gave her a two month curfew to remain at home between 9pm and 7am daily until February 5 2017.

She must also pay £100 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Drink driver banned for three years

Jasmine Grant, of Sutton Road, Maidstone, drove a Ford Fiesta in Heath Road, Maidstone, without a licence and with no insurance.

She failed to stop the vehicle after a road accident and gave a breath test of 90 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

The 25-year-old also failed to turn up to court following bail without reasonable excuse.

Magistrates banned Grant from driving for three years. She must also pay a £450 fine, £200 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

Cheese and coffee thief charged

Michael Scott, of Lower Fant Road, Maidstone, stole meat, cheese and coffee worth an unknown amount from a shop in Wallis Avenue, Maidstone.

The 45-year-old also stole steaks worth £36 from a supermarket in The Mall, Maidstone.

Magistrates sentenced Scott to 60 days in prison, suspended for a year. He must also pay £50 compensation and a £115 victim surcharge.

Prison for DVD thief

Christopher Blaber, of Pier Road, Gillingham, stole various DVDs worth £725 from a shop in Fremlin Walk, Maidstone and on a different day stole various DVDs worth £539.68 from the same shop.

Magistrates sentenced the 33-year-old to 360 days in prison, however the overall length of his sentence is 540 days as the crimes were done during a suspended sentence. He must also pay a £115 victim surcharge.

Homeless man sent to prison for stealing more than £2,000 of clothing

Homeless Luis Alvarado-Torres stole clothing worth £1,336 and £820 from two shops in Kimberley Way, Ashford.

Magistrates sentenced the 30-year-old to 56 days in prison. He must also pay a £115 victim surcharge.

Disqualified driver banned for another three years

Kwaku Odaatu Amofah, of Sandhurst Place, Margate, drove a Volkswagen Sharon in Dalby Road, Margate, while disqualified and with no insurance.

Magistrates sentenced the 34-year-old to 12 weeks in prison, suspended for a year, banned him from driving for three years and ordered him to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work in the next year. He must also pay £85 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Dover man won't be driving for three years

Christopher Farmer, of Wycherley Crescent, failed to give a breath test in New Street, Dover.

Magistrates sentenced the 29-year-old to 12 weeks in prison, suspended for a year, and banned him from driving for three years. He must also pay £40 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Hythe woman more than double the limit charged

Allison Hiscox, of Seabrook Road, drove a Mini on the M20 at Ashford, and gave a breath test of 74 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

Magistrates banned the 46-year-old from driving for a year and seven months. She must also pay a £780 fine, £85 costs and a £78 victim surcharge.

Margate man charged for damage and assault

Trevor Marshall, of Millmead Road, damaged a sewing machine and items of stock worth £130 and assaulted a woman at a shop in Northdown Road, Margate.

Magistrates sentenced the 56-year-old to 120 days in prison, suspended for a year and a half, and gave him a six month curfew to remain at home between 7pm and 7am daily until June 7 2017.

He must also pay £130 compensation, £150 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Gravesend man handed three year driving ban

Ladislav Horvath, of Cedar Avenue, drove a Vauxhall Zafira on Cecil Road, Gravesend, without a licence and with no insurance. He also failed to provide a urine test.

Magistrates sentenced the 47-year-old to eight weeks in prison, suspended for a year, banned him from driving for three years and ordered him to carry out 160 hours of unpaid work in the next year.

He must also pay £324 compensation, £85 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Drink driver banned for nearly four years

Daniel Payne, of Canterbury Road, Herne Bay, drove a Peugeot 206 in Northdown Road, Margate, and gave a breath test of 94 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath - the legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Magistrates banned the 36-year-old from driving for three years and eight months. He must also pay a £120 fine, £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

Vodka thief behind bars

Carl Smith, of Somerset Road, Walmer, stole two bottles of vodka worth £30 from a supermarket in College Walk, Margate.

Magistrates sentenced the 35-year-old to 42 days in prison.

Margate man handed 150 hours of unpaid work for assault

Andrew Brewster, of Prices Avenue, Margate, assaulted a man in St Andrew’s Close, Whitstable.

Magistrates ordered the 30-year-old to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work in the next year. He must also pay £100 compensation, £310 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Drink driver more than double the limit banned and fined

Ben Twyman, of Lancaster Close, Ramsgate, drove a Peugeot 306 in Bath Road, Margate, otherwise than in accordance with a licence, with no insurance and gave a breath test of 72 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

Magistrates banned the 26-year-old from driving for a year and eight months. He must also pay a £350 fine and £150 costs.

27-year-old won't be driving for three years

Kevin Andrews, of Porchester Close, Hartley, drove a BMW 3 Series in Chatham Hill, Chatham, while disqualified and with no insurance.

He also obstructed a police officer.

Magistrates sentenced Andrews to 12 weeks in prison, suspended for two years, banned him from driving for three years and ordered him to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work in the next year.

He must also pay a £185 fine, £85 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Prison for man whole stole more than £5,000 worth of spirits

Homeless John Bryant broke into a bar in High Street, Rochester, and stole bottles of spirits worth £5,586.40.

Magistrates sentenced the 50-year-old to 16 weeks in prison. He must also pay a £115 victim surcharge.

Lesley Ward, of Lyndhurst Way, Gravesend, drove a Ford Focus in Lyndhurst Way, and gave a breath test of 94 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

Lee Moore, of Sturdee Avenue, failed to provide a specimen of breath for analysis in Gillingham.

Magistrates banned the 47-year-old from driving for two years and four months and ordered him to carry out 60 hours of unpaid work in the next year. He must also pay £150 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Man charged with multiple offences

Mark Joy, of Chalkpit Hill, Chatham, stole alcohol and groceries worth £298.18 from a supermarket in Cuxton Road, Strood.

On another day he stole a toolbox and electrical items worth £228 from a shop in Will Adams Way, Gillingham.

The 41-year-old also assaulted a man at an address in Mills Terrace, Chatham.

On two separate dates, he failed to turn up to court with a good excuse.

Magistrates sentenced Joy to 120 days in prison, suspended for a year. He must also pay a £100 fine, £50 compensation, £85 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Four time shoplifter charged

Lee Robinson, of Grange Hill, Chatham, stole cosmetics worth £300 from a shop in High Street, Gillingham.

On three different days, he stole cosmetics worth £80, cosmetics worth £100 and cosmetics worth £60 from the same shop.

Magistrates sentenced the 36-year-old to 60 days in prison, suspended for a year, and gave him a three month curfew to remain at home between 7pm and 7am daily until March 5 2017.

He must also pay £640 compensation and a £115 victim surcharge.

Months in prison for multiple shoplifting offences and threatening behaviour for one man

Homeless Sean McGarrigle stole two t-shirts worth £16 from a shop in New Road, Gravesend.

Another day, he stole meat worth £48 from a shop in Whinfell Way, Gravesend.

The 43-year-old then stole meat worth £100 from a shop in Whitehill Road, Gravesend.

McGarrigle also stole meat worth £90.94 from the same shop and used threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour towards a man, causing him to fear violence.

On a different date, he stole meat and coffee worth £39.50 and used threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour towards a man at a shop in Whinfell Way, Gravesend, causing him to fear violence.

Magistrates sentenced McGarrigle to 240 days in prison. He must also pay a £115 victim surcharge.

Four time shoplifter charged

Lee Horton, of Queenborough Road, Sheerness, stole cosmetics worth £945.54 from a shop in High Street, Sheerness.

The 35-year-old also stole cosmetics worth £75 from the same shop and confectionary worth £73.84 from a supermarket in Millennium Way, Sheerness.

On a different day he stole cosmetics worth £461.54 from the same shop in High Street, Sheerness.

Magistrates sentenced Horton to 100 days in prison. He must also pay £1,093 compensation.

71-year-old won't be driving for four years

Peter Williams, of Merileys Close, Longfield, drove a Ford Fusion in Wrotham Road, Meopham, while disqualified and with no insurance.

Magistrates banned the pensioner from driving for four years. He must also pay £85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Gillingham man handed 200 hours of unpaid work

Barry Britcher, of Marlborough Road, stole an iron and a portable charger worth £50 from a shop in The Pentagon Shopping Centre, Chatham.

The 50-year-old also stole a speaker worth £25 and electrical goods worth £99 from the same shop on different days.

Britcher also stole DVDs and Blue Rays worth £98 from a supermarket in the Shopping Centre, Rainham.

Magistrates ordered Britcher to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work in the next year. He must also pay £174 compensation, £85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Serial shoplifter charged

Jamie Hopkins, of Browning Road, Dartford, stole a quantity of DVDs worth an unknown amount from a shop in High Street, Dartford.

The 32-year-old also stole chocolate worth £30 from a shop in The Orchards, Dartford.

He stole two computer printers worth £90 from a shop in The Priory Shopping Centre, Dartford.

Hopkins also stole a quantity of chocolate worth £90 from another shop in The Priory Shopping Centre, Dartford.

He then failed to turn up to court without reasonable excuse.

After this date, he stole a toy worth £49.97 from a supermarket in Prospect Place, Dartford.

Magistrates sentenced Hopkins to 100 days in prison, suspended for a year. He must also pay £259 compensation.

Drink driver banned

Tracey Fletcher, of Sandford Road, Sittingbourne, drove a Ford Fiesta in London Road, Sittingbourne, and gave a breath test of 74 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

Magistrates banned the 55-year-old from driving for a year and a half. She must also pay a £360 fine, £85 costs and a £36 victim surcharge.
