The latest results from the courts around Kent

A nine time shoplifter and an Easter egg thief are among those to face justice in Kent's magistrates' courts in this week's round-up.



Man with torch stun gun sentenced

Homeless Jacek Czech had a torch stun gun on him in Dover Eastern Docks.

Magistrates sentenced the 25-year-old to 28 days in prison, suspended for six months. He must also pay £85 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Harasser handed restraining order

Between 22 March and 2 September last year Melvin Kidd, of Union Row, Margate, harassed a man by making unwanted demands for money from him.

Magistrates sentenced the 59-year-old to 56 days in prison, suspended for two years, and gave him a restraining order which lasts until 15 January 2019.

He must also pay £85 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Drink driver won't be on the road for nearly four years

Thomas Rudelenskis, of Archers Court Road, Dover, drove a Volkswagen in Sturry Road, Canterbury, and gave a breath test of 87 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Magistrates banned the 29-year-old from driving for three years and ten months. He must also pay a £180 fine, £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

Serial shoplifter in prison

Homeless Jason Brazier stole food and drink worth £153.36 from a shop in Brookfield Court, Ashford.

On a different day, he stole meat worth £83.78 from the same shop.

The 31-year-old also stole confectionery worth £113 from a supermarket in Bouverie Road West, Folkestone.

Brazier then failed to surrender to bail at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court without reasonable excuse.

On another day he stole cosmetics worth £200 from a shop in The Singleton Centre, Ashford, and washing products worth £128.41 from another shop in The Singleton Centre. He also had a quantity of diamorphine on him.

Magistrates sentenced Brazier to 117 days in prison. He must also pay £549 compensation.

Violent teen sentenced

Lukas Duzda, of Russell Street, Dover, used unlawful violence in the communal area of a block of flats in Snargate Street, Dover.

Magistrates sentenced the 19-year-old to 20 weeks in prison, suspended for a year and ordered him to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work in the next year. He must also pay £85 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Prison for Folkestone man

Michael Flynn, of Dallas Brett Crescent, damaged wooden fencing and used threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour in Dallas Brett Crescent. He also obstructed a police officer.

Magistrates sentenced the 24-year-old to 28 days in prison. He must also pay a £115 victim surcharge.

Hythe man sentenced for assault

Aaron Richards, of Fort Road, Hythe, assaulted a woman at a library in Cheriton High Street, Folkestone.

Magistrates sentenced the 35-year-old to eight weeks in prison, suspended for a year. He must also pay £200 compensation and £85 costs.

Disqualified driver sentenced

Adam Tebbutt, of Honeywood Close, Canterbury, drove an Audi A4 on the A257 at Ash, Canterbury, while disqualified and with no insurance.

Magistrates sentenced the 28-year-old to 12 weeks in prison, suspended for a year. He must also pay £85 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Prison for one disqualified driver

Ian Giles, of Millmead Road, Margate, drove a Ford Pickup in Upper Dane Road, Margate, while disqualified and with no insurance.

Magistrates sentenced the 53-year-old to 150 days in prison. He must also pay a £115 victim surcharge.

Illegal driver banned

Jake Stirrups, of Northdown Road, Margate, drove a Peugeot 106 in Folkestone Road, Dover, otherwise than in accordance with a licence and with no insurance. He also gave a breath test of 83 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

Magistrates banned the 20-year-old from driving for a year and a half. He must also pay a £110 fine, £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

Whitstable man handed 200 hours of unpaid work

Matthew Ward, of Olympia Way, Whitstable, assaulted a woman and two men in High Street, Whitstable.

Magistrates sentenced the 25-year-old to 84 days in prison, suspended for a year, and ordered him to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work in the next year. He must also pay £400 compensation, £85 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Man with knife sentenced

Aaron Sharp, of Graystone Road, Whitstable, assaulted a man in Tankerton Road, Whitstable. He also had a knife on him.

Magistrates sentenced the 22-year-old to 30 days in prison, suspended for a year. He must also pay £50 compensation.

Seven time shoplifter sentenced

Rory O'Brien, of Hillbrow Avenue, Sturry, stole three bottles of whiskey worth £100 from a supermarket in St George’s Street, Canterbury.

The 42-year-old then stole fragrances worth £59.98 from a shop in Stour Retail Park, Canterbury.

On different days he stole meat worth £84.61, shoes worth £234, children’s clothing worth £464 from the same supermarket and other clothing worth £188 from the same shop.

He then failed to surrender to bail at Thanet Magistrates’ Court without reasonable excuse.

Magistrates sentenced O’Brien to 12 weeks in prison, suspended for a year. He must also pay £556 compensation, £85 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Prison for double shoplifter

Joseph Scott, of Castle Street, Canterbury, stole two televisions and miscellaneous items from a supermarket in Millstrood Road, Whitstable.

The 28-year-old also stole numerous items worth £442.32 from a supermarket in Ten Perch Road, Canterbury.

He then failed to surrender to bail at Thanet Magistrates’ Court without reasonable excuse.

Magistrates sentenced Scott to 84 days in prison. He must also pay £260 compensation and a £115 victim surcharge.

Herne Bay teen off the road for two years

Billy Smith, of Rockingham Place, Herne Bay, drove a Vauxhall Corsa in Mortimer Street, Herne Bay, and gave a breath test of 94 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

Magistrates banned the 19-year-old from driving for two years and ordered him to carry out 60 hours of unpaid work in the next year. He must also pay £85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Easter egg thief in prison

Thomas Medhurst, of Railway Street, Gillingham, stole five Easter eggs worth £25 from a shop in High Street, Gillingham.

Magistrates sentenced the 47-year-old to 90 days in prison. He must also pay £25 compensation.

Drink driver banned

Temir Albay, of Buckland Hill, Maidstone, drove a Vauxhall Movano in Royal Engineers Road, Maidstone, and gave a breath test of 84 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

Magistrates banned the 46-year-old from driving for a year and eight months. He must also pay a £700 fine, £85 costs and a £70 victim surcharge.

Year and a half off the road for one man

Ryan Weyland of Pine View, Sevenoaks, drove a BMW 116i in Maidstone Road, Wrotham, and gave a breath test of 69 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

Magistrates banned the 20-year-old from driving for a year and a half. He must also pay a £370 fine, £85 costs and a £37 victim surcharge.

Driving offender in prison

Mark Kingshott of Bryn Bevan, Newport, drove a Peugeot Partner in London Road, Maidstone, while disqualified and with no insurance. He gave a breath test of 56 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

He then failed to surrender to bail at Mid Kent Magistrates’ Court without reasonable excuse.

Magistrates sentenced the 43-year-old to 137 days in prison and banned him from driving for three years. He must also pay £85 costs and an £80 victim surcharge.

Gillingham man in prison

Paul Gillion, of Perie Row, assaulted a man in Blue Boar Lane, Rochester, and damaged an ambulance radio unit.

He then failed to surrender to court bail at Medway Magistrates’ Court without reasonable excuse.

Magistrates sentenced the 47-year-old to 18 weeks in prison. He must also pay £100 compensation.

Man handed curfew for theft

Steven Cotter of Selstead Close, Gillingham, stole a jacket and a rucksack worth £190 from a vehicle in Bedgebury Close, Rochester.

On another day, he stole £2 cash from a vehicle in Haig Avenue, Rochester.

Magistrates sentenced Cotter to 150 days in prison, suspended for a year.

He was also handed a two month curfew to remain at an address in Melville Court, Gillingham, between 11pm and 6am daily until March 15.

The 26-year-old must also pay £2 compensation, £135 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Five year driving ban for one man

Peter Fitzgerald of Bronte View, Gravesend, drove an Audi A5 in Bronte View, and gave a breath test of 97 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

Magistrates sentenced the 36-year-old to 20 weeks in prison and banned him from driving for five years. He must also pay a £115 victim surcharge.

Prison and ban for Dover woman

Billi Darling, of Aylesham Road, drove a Ford Mondeo in Wheatcroft Close, Sittingbourne, while disqualified and with no insurance. She also failed to give her name and address when required to do so by a police officer.

On another day she refused to provide a non-intimate sample for a Class A drug test.

Magistrates sentenced the 25-year-old to 180 days in prison and banned her from driving for two years. She must also pay a £115 victim surcharge.

Dartford man sentenced for attempted theft

Lee Garrard of Laburnum Avenue, Dartford, attempted to steal items from a vehicle in Chastilian Road, Dartford.

Magistrates sentenced the 25-year-old to 30 days in prison, suspended for a year. He must also pay £85 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Perfume thief handed unpaid work

On two different days Natalja Kamrikova, of Campbell Road, Gravesend, stole perfume worth an unknown amount from a shop in New Road, Gravesend.

Another day, she stole DVDs worth £45 from a supermarket in Pepper Hill, Dartford.

She then stole perfume worth £254.66 from a shop in Greenhithe.

Magistrates ordered Kamrikova to carry out 240 hours of unpaid work in the next year. She must also pay £85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Unpaid work and compensation fine handed to attacker

Alan Tolfrey of Old Road, Chatham, assaulted a man in Ingram Road, Gillingham.

Magistrates ordered the 53-year-old to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work in the next year. He must also pay £1,500 compensation, £85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Knifeman sentenced

Homeless James Taylor had a kitchen knife on him in Station Road, Rainham.

He then failed to surrender to bail at Medway Magistrates’ Court without reasonable excuse.

Magistrates sentenced the 38-year-old to six months in prison, suspended for two years and ordered him to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work in the next year. He must also pay a £100 fine, £85 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Four time shoplifter sentenced

Duncan Fagg pleaded guilty to four counts of shoplifting and three counts of failing to attend an assessment following a drugs test.

Items shoplifted included razor blades, coffee and dental products.

Magistrates sentenced Fagg to 120 days in prison, suspended for a year. He must also pay £94 compensation, £85 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Chatham man handed curfew

Michael Thornton of Ryde Close, Chatham, stole two sets of knives, two hair trimmers and an air freshener worth £95.96 from a supermarket in High Street, Strood.

He also had one gram of cannabis and one gram of cocaine on him.

Magistrates sentenced the 26-year-old to 90 days in prison, suspended for a year, and gave him a three month curfew to remain at home between 7pm and 7am daily until April 17.

He must also pay £85 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Five years off the road for one man

Gurvinder Jagpal of Bartlett Road, Gravesend, drove a Mercedes in Harmer Street, Gravesend, while disqualified and with no insurance.

He gave a breath test of 85 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

Magistrates sentenced the 41-year-old to 180 days in prison, suspended for two years, banned him from driving for five years and ordered him to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work in the next year.

He must also pay £625 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Alcohol thief sentenced

Homeless Danut Mircea stole bottles of wine and spirits worth £539.03 from a supermarket in Crescent Road, Faversham.

Magistrates sentenced the 49-year-old to six weeks in prison, suspended for a year. He must also pay £85 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Nine time shoplifter jailed

Sheralyn Convey pleaded guilty to nine counts of shoplifting, one count of attempted shoplifting and one count of possession of cannabis.

The 34-year-old stole items including clothing, perfume, jewellery and a bag totaling more than £900

She also attempted to steal a purse worth £20 from another shop in High Street, Rochester, and had a quantity of cannabis on her.

Magistrates sentenced Convey to 26 weeks in prison. She must also pay £953 compensation and a £115 victim surcharge.

Prison and compensation fee more than £2000 for one man

Homeless Mark Taylor damaged a window worth £2,697.41 at a supermarket in High Street, Chatham.

Magistrates sentenced the 44-year-old to 42 days in prison. He must also pay £2,697 compensation and a £115 victim surcharge.

Meat thief behind bars

Justin Baker of Chelmar Road, Chatham, handled a stolen kettle worth £34.99.

He then failed to surrender to bail at Medway Police Station without reasonable excuse.

The 32-year-old also stole meat worth £40 from a shop in High Street, Snodland.

On a different day, he stole meat worth £87.95 from a supermarket in The Pentagon Shopping Centre, Chatham.

Magistrates sentenced Baker to 33 weeks in prison. He must also pay £40 compensation.

Prison sentence for Faversham man

Ashley De Luca, of Ivory Close, stole a satellite navigation system worth an unknown amount from a vehicle in St John’s Road, Faversham.

He also stole an iPod and case worth an unknown amount from a vehicle in Hilton Close, Faversham.

On a different day, he stole a Kindle and medication worth an unknown amount and £63 cash from a vehicle in Hazebrouck Road, Faversham.

Magistrates sentenced the 29-year-old to 180 days in prison. He must also pay a £115 victim surcharge.
