Gillingham's injury woes look set to scupper any plans
manager Andy Hessenthaler had of trimming his playing squad.
Hessenthaler (pictured) has already exceeded his transfer budget
and was hoping to lessen the wage bill by off-loading some players
before the window for permanent signings closes at the end of
August.
That now looks unlikely after a run of injuries left him with
just 17 fit professionals to face Hereford on Saturday.
Hessenthaler now admits moving anyone on in the short term is
unlikely.
He said: "I wouldn’t have thought anything would happen in the
window at the moment.
"If anything, it would probably be when the window opens for
loans. There might be a few young boys we move out just to get
games. We need to keep everyone fit and they need to play.
"I can’t see anything being done during the transfer window, not
with the amount of injuries we’ve got, we can’t afford to do
that."
Hessenthaler had 11 players out through injury on Saturday.
