Gillingham defender Garry Richards has suffered a setback in his bid to recover from a knee injury.
Richards hasn’t featured for the Gills since the 2-0 loss at Brighton in mid-October but he was hoping to make the bench for the trip to Huddersfield.
Scans revealed that Richards was ready to return but the big defender is still feeling the effects of the injury and the club are sending him away for another check.
Stimson said: "He stepped up his training this week but unfortunately he had a setback. Now we need a second opinion.
"He’s someone who wants to play and he’s pushed himself this week but he felt uncomfortable with it.
"The scan didn’t show anything and now he is going to have a second opinion and decide where to go from there."
With Richards still sidelined, Stimson ended Tom Wynter’s loan stint at Dover as he joined the substitutes at Huddersfield.
Gillingham’s only other fit centre-back available was youth player Connor Essam and he was on standby for the weekend.
