Innovation centre may create jobs

SIX hundred high-tech jobs could be created in Medway if council plans for an innovation centre in the Towns get the go-ahead. A private report will go to the council cabinet tomorrow on the ideas from officers.

The Medway Innovation Centre will provide a base and support for high technology businesses.

The hope is that if the centre can be built probably at the Medway Universities campus it will attract technology companies to the Towns.

In turn that will create jobs for the growing number of highly skilled students coming out of the universities of Kent and Greenwich based in Chatham Maritime.

A council spokesman said it was in keeping with Medway's aim to be a city of learning, tourism, culture and high technology. The campus has been identified as a possible site but the spokesman admitted they were also considering other sites.
