An inquest is due to be opened today into the death of a woman who was hit by a car on the M2.

Helen Lucas, 36, of Douglas Road, Maidstone, died after getting out of her Peugeot 207 when she hit the central reservation.

The accident happened on the coastbound carriageway, near to junction two for Cuxton, at 7.30pm on Wednesday, February 8.

A Kent Police spokesman said Ms Lucas was standing by the central reservation when she was hit by a silver Ford Mondeo. The cause of death has been recorded as multiple injuries.

The 22-year-old male Mondeo driver, from Rochester, was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital with a minor injury and discharged the same night.

The road was closed for around seven hours while officers from the Kent Police Serious Collision Unit carried out an investigation.

The inquest will be opened and adjourned today and a full inquest will be held at a later date.
