It's been great to sign for Charlton and I was delighted to score on my debut, but I wasn’t really happy with my all-round performance.

It was my first game for the club, though, and my first match back after a knee injury, so I have to be pretty pleased. But I know there is more to come.

Because I haven’t been playing for a while, I got a bit tired before the end. But I felt good. My knee felt good and wasn’t a problem, so that bodes well for the future. I was pleased with my goal.

The ball was a bit behind me, so I just tried to make a connection and steer it goalwards. I’m looking forward to seeing it on television!

Although Tuesday night’s win against Colchester was my first game for Charlton, I visited The Valley a couple of weeks ago, to watch the match against Plymouth, my former club.

The transfer was completed a couple of days later, so it was all a bit strange, but now I’m focusing on scoring goals and helping Charlton climb the league and gain promotion.

Of course, I can’t talk about the midweek match without discussing the refereeing decision in the second half. What was going on there?

I definitely heard the whistle go before their player put the ball in the net, and we knew the goal would be disallowed. But then it was given, and then disallowed again. It was amazing, really.

Before I signed I spoke to the manager on the phone and he told me what he expected from me and said everything I wanted to hear.

There’s been a lot of talk about my knee because I previously failed a medical at Reading, but it’s fine. I was actually expecting to be on the bench against Colchester because the team won the last game, but the manager showed faith in me and I’m pleased I repaid that.

It’s not just about me, though. We’ve got some good striking options with Joe Anyinsah, Nathan Eccleston, Paul Benson and Pawel Abbott as well, and we can all contribute in front of goal.

That competition for places should bring out the best in us.

We’ve got Yeovil next and we’ve got to capitalise on our last two wins, so we’ll be setting off on a long trip looking to bank another three points. Let’s hope we have more success than last weekend’s long trip to Rochdale, when the game was called off!
