What a day Saturday was! And it was fantastic to play my part with my first goal for the club.

It was a great occasion with the new manager coming in – what he’s done here so far for the club has made him a legend.

And the game itself against Plymouth Argyle was great to watch. I was on the bench for a good part of it and to come on and score my first goal, plus winning 2-0 and keeping a clean sheet, made it a great day.

I’ve received a lot of compliments for my goal, which is always nice. The coaching staff were particularly pleased with the way the move started from my tackle as well, after I got back to make a challenge.

I then picked the ball up quite deep, managed to keep hold of it and took it into their penalty area. It was a decent bit of skill and I managed to find the far corner.

I met new manager Chris Powell for the first time the previous Saturday at Sheffield Wednesday – we were two new boys together!

He came into the dressing room before kick-off and introduced himself to all of us because he was taking over on Monday. I’d never spoken to him directly before but obviously I knew about him as a player.

Training last week was good. He gave us his thoughts on how he wanted football to be played – positive and direct attacking football, which is what the fans want to see.

It’s always good to come to a team which wants to play the right way.

I’d been looking to get out on loan for a while and, of course, while I was at Liverpool, I spoke Jonjo Shelvey. He was a big influence on my decision; he filled me with great words about the club and the supporters, so although other clubs were interested, it was an easy decision in the end.

I watched some of Liverpool’s game against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the changing room before the match and unfortunately he missed a great chance. A first goal for him on the same day that I scored my first for Charlton would have been perfect.

I’ve come to Charlton to play games and I want to be starting matches but no one can expect to just walk into any team.

You’ve got to work hard and be determined.

In the two appearances I’ve made so far off the bench, I think I’ve done well, so hopefully if

I work hard in training this week, I’ll get a start against Rochdale on Saturday.
