I might not have been involved on Tuesday night against Bristol Rovers but I was kicking every ball as the lads applied all that pressure in search of a winning goal.
We had enough chances to win and there was no question of a lack of desire but we just couldn’t get the goal that our dominance, particularly in the closing stages, probably deserved and we also met a goalkeeper in fine form.
That said, we had to come from behind and it was important not to lose. We’ve maintained our recent unbeaten record and the longer that continues, the better our season will be. There was confusion about the equaliser but anyone who has now seen the television pictures will have seen it was Paul Benson’s goal.
It was announced over the Tannoy that Kyel Reid had scored and he said ‘thanks’ when the gaffer congratulated him after the game! But there is no way he can claim it as Benno clearly diverts it into the goal.
I wasn’t in action because of the groin strain I picked up against Peterborough United earlier this month but I won’t be out too much longer.
I was close to being fit but thought it best that we took no risks because I’ve had a few niggling injuries this season.
I’m going to take my time and make sure I’m right but when I do get back in, I will be looking forward to getting in among it again. The fans have not seen the best of me yet. So look out.
It’s all different to when I was training by myself over the summer – and paying for my own physiotherapy.
I tore my hamstring when I was going flat out over 100m and it took me a while to recover, by which time the season had started and I still didn’t have a club.
I remember watching Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports when the first games of the season kicked off. It was depressing.
I was worried, especially when you see friends and former team-mates without a club but I always had faith something would turn up.
Eventually, Charlton got in touch and there was plenty of running before I was offered a contract. It felt like I was at boot camp but I think I’ve caught up now and that’s thanks to the gaffer, physio and fitness coaches.
Let’s hope Charlton fans and I reap the benefits, starting with Luton Town in the FA Cup on Saturday.
