I’ve been the focus of attention at Sparrows Lane ever since the draw was made for this weekend’s FA Cup match against Northwich Victoria.
I spent five games up in Cheshire with the Vics last season, and as soon as the draw took place I was getting calls and texts – I think Jonjo Shelvey was the first – from the lads asking me what they could expect.
I think Sam Sodje has played against them, back in his days with Margate, so I’m not the only expert!
But everyone has been wanting to know exactly what the pitch and the stadium are like.
It’s a good little set-up, to be honest, and I really enjoyed my time there, although things didn’t end very well, when I was sent off in the same match that I scored my first goal.
I thought the red card was a bit harsh; I was a little late with my challenge but it wasn’t reckless or violent.
It was the last match of my loan and I would probably have extended it, but there wasn’t much point because I was banned for three games.
It was a totally different type of football from what I was used to, and I think it definitely made me a better player in the long run.
Northwich is a nice place, and the fans are good as well. There were over 2,000 there for their last match in the cup, when they beat FC United. The pitch is really nice, and quite wide as well, so it suits me as a winger!
Lots of things have changed since I was there, including the manager, and after being relegated at the end of the season, they have since gone into administration.
But I think there are about five or six players who were there with me; I’ve spoken to a couple of them and I know they are looking forward to it.
They are looking to cause an upset and see their name in lights, and it’s a great opportunity for them to play live on television in front of a national audience. ITV are looking for a giantkilling, but we know what to expect and will be doing our best to avoid that fate.
