Intruder attacks woman, 91, in her home

A WOMAN of 91 suffered head injuries after she was thrown to the floor by an intruder she found in her house in Edward Street, Southborough, near Tunbridge Wells. The pensioner had been visiting local shops, and on her return was surprised to discover her front door slightly ajar.

On entering the hallway she was attacked by the burglar who pushed her to the ground before escaping. The householder was later treated for head injuries which are not thought to be serious.

The incident happened at about 4pm yesterday. Det Con Ian Wadey, of West Kent CID, said: "We understand the intruder walked away down Edward Street towards Holden Park Road. At this stage nothing is believed to have been stolen from the house, but we would welcome any information which may help us arrest the man concerned."

The intruder is described as a well-built white male, aged between 20 and 35. He was wearing a black bomber jacket and had either closely-shaven fair hair or a bald head.

Det Con Wadey can be contacted on 01732 370732 or callers may prefer to use the free, anonymous Crimestoppers service, telephone 0800 555111.
