Intruder steals from pensioner

AN ELDERLY woman sitting with her front door open because of the hot weather has had £30 stolen from her purse by an intruder.

The 86-year-old woman, from Tivoli Road in Margate, became aware a man was standing at her door and he walked in and started giving her a sales pitch about items he was selling.

The woman told him she wasn’t interested. At this point he asked for a drink.

The woman went into the kitchen and got a glass of water which he drank before leaving.

The woman then noticed her purse had been moved and £30 was missing. She went outside and saw the young man disappearing on the opposite side of the road with a couple of other young men, who were wearing baseball caps.

The culprit was in his late teens to early 20s, 5ft 6in with short, light brown, curly hair. He wore a dark jumper, dark trousers, trainers and an ID badge.

He was carrying a large black bag. Anyone with information is asked to call Thanet Police on 01843 231055.
