Investigation after man is stabbed in the neck

A 31-year-old man was left fighting for his life after he was stabbed in the neck during an incident in the street.

The vicious attack happened at about 2.35am on Sunday in Bromley town centre.

Police were called to help the victim, who was lying in the middle of Market Square being tended to by a friend.

A spokesman for Bromley police said the victim was bleeding profusely from a puncture wound to the back of the neck and slipping in and out of consciousness. The trail of bood led officers to believe that the attack may have happened in nearby East Street.

It is not yet known what weapon the man was stabbed with, but detectives are understood to believe it was either a knife or a bottle.

The victim was taken to Lewisham Hospital with life-threatening injuries. He was released from hospital on Sunday evening.

Detectives have seized CCTV footage from the scene.

An 18-year-old woman arrested on Monday morning on suspicion of attempted murder has been bailed to return to Bromley police station on April 5, pending further enquiries.

Two men, one aged 24 and the other 23, who were arrested on Sunday morning and released on police bail.
