An investigation has been mounted into claims a Kent-based soldier kept body parts of dead Taliban fighters as "souvenirs".

The Ministry of Defence is following up allegations the un-named soldier had a stash of what is thought to be fingers of opponents.

The allegations are believed to have been made against a soldier from The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, 5th Battalion, The Royal Regiment of Scotland, who are based at Canterbury.

The MoD's Special Investigation Branch is looking in to the claims.
