Callum Fowler is a reformed character according to Invicta Dynamos head coach Kevin Parrish – and that explains why Parrish is delighted Fowler has agreed to stay on at the Silver Blades Ice Rink for another season.
"In my view Callum is by far the most skilful player in Division 1 South," said Parrish. "But we had a little bit of trouble with him when he first played for us two seasons ago.
"Because of it I ended up releasing him just before the 2010-2011 play-offs, which wasn’t a very nice thing to have to do.
"But I think it probably jolted him a little bit and made him think hard about what he wants to achieve in this sport.
"After Callum rejoined us a quarter way through last season I couldn’t complain about him, he was superb.
"He’s a very gifted player, a goalscorer and a play-maker, and he is absolutely perfect for us when we’re short-handed because he can go out there and control the game on his own for two minutes."
Fowler (pictured), 20, began his ice hockey career in the Invicta junior ranks before having spells with Romford, Chelmsford and Peterborough.
In 2009, he was captain of the Great Britain under-18 team which gained promotion to the world under-18 top division.
"Callum has great hands, excellent vision, a great shot and the pace to cause problems," added Parrish. "What more could you want in a hockey player?"
Parrish now has nine names on his roster for next season and said: "I will be looking to sign up another eight or nine players before we start pre-season."
