THE future of Bromley’s Christmas ice rink will be discussed at a meeting of the council tonight.

The temporary rink has cost the council more than £114,000 in its two years of running, due to lower then expected ticket sales.

In 2006/2007 low sales cost the council £68,578, money which had to be made up using the Town Centre Development Fund.

This year there was a loss of £45,604. The council used the Town centre Operation Budget to make up £20,000 of this but has been left with a £25,604 deficit.

In contrast, Bromley’s markets have been booming and councillors will be deciding on whether to allow Bromley Town Centre Market to trade on the first Sunday of every month as well as Fridays and Saturdays for a trial period.

They will also be deciding on the movement of the Charter Market to the high street on Thursdays and considering whether to introduce regular street markets in Orpington High Street and Beckenham Green.

Also up for discussion will be the response to proposals to close Orpington Jobcentre.

The meeting will be held at Bromley Civic Centre at 7pm.
