Has a UFO been spotted over Thanet?

An 18-year-old astronomer says he saw a bright light shining through clouds which changed shape before moving off at speed.

Henry Smith, who lives in Broadstairs, was stargazing at a friend’s house in Westbrook on Sunday evening when they saw the mystery light from their garden at 8.45pm.

He said: “After about 30 seconds of looking at it, it shot towards us in the sky, moved back then moved left.

"At this point it changed from its original disc like shape into an oblong. It then blended in with the clouds, but was still visible.

“It appeared again after a minute getting very bright this time."

He added: “What was also quite strange was that about four minutes after it disappeared, we heard two jets high up in the sky flying towards the area where we first saw the object appear.

"Half an hour later we heard a large, possibly a four engined prop, aircraft which seemed to be circling the area a few times.”
