A Kent influencer has won at the first ever TikTok awards.
Kyra-Mae Turner has been crowned Creator of The Year after her travel and “get-ready with me” videos shot to internet fame this year.
The 22-year-old, who works as an independent travel agent while abroad, took home the title at a ceremony held in London yesterday evening (December 3).
More than 72 influencers were in the running for categories, ranging from sports to beauty, for the live-streamed red-carpet event.
But it was Kyra who took the most-anticipated and final award of the night as she was declared the winner by host and RuPaul’s Drag Race judge Michelle Visage.
Speaking on stage, the make-up artist said: “I don’t really know what to say to be honest as I wasn't expecting this at all but thank you so much to everyone who has supported me and voted for me.
“It’s been a really crazy year and it’s been incredible.”
And although she has amassed more than 1.2 million followers on the platform, Kyra is often praised for her authentic content.
She first began getting online attention in Spring of this year when posting TikToks of her travels across Southeast Asia, including Thailand, Vietnam and Bali.
Often, her videos will feature getting her makeup done in different countries, or how much she can buy for £1 in local shops.
But, when she is not on buses and planes, the makeup artist posts lifestyle content from the comfort of her home.
These are usually get-ready with me and cooking clips, but lately, Kyra has begun vlogmas – a trend where influencers document their lives daily in the lead-up to Christmas.
Her videos also often feature Chatham locations and businesses, including B&M, the tubing and tobogganing Snowsports Centre and a favourite restaurant of hers, Taze in the high street.
